Auctions & Rules FAQs13 questions

In an online auction, each player has a countdown. Bidding stays open for 12 seconds, followed by Any Further Bids? for 10 seconds and Final Call for 10 seconds. New bids restart the countdown, while bids during Final Call restart a new 10-second Final Call. If no new bid arrives, the player is sold to the highest bidder. Read the Live Bidding rules.

Yes. Use the Custom Bid box instead of the Raise Bid button. Your bid must be at least the next valid bid, within your Max Bid/Player, and follow the league’s configured bid increment. Bid Range shows the lowest and highest valid amounts.

Max Bid/Player updates live and reserves enough budget to complete your remaining squad requirements. Bids above your maximum are automatically blocked, helping ensure you can still complete your squad.

The player goes unsold and returns to the unsold pool. Teams still short of a full squad can nominate up to 5 players for a final round and up to 3 players in each further round.

The first bid successfully registered by the system stands. The other team is asked to refresh and place another bid.

Where scoring is enabled, each team selects a Captain worth 2× points and a Vice-Captain worth 1.5× points before the tournament starts. If no selections are made, CAL automatically assigns the team’s two costliest players. Selections remain hidden until the tournament begins.

If teams have equal CAL Points, the team with more points before Captain and Vice-Captain multipliers ranks higher. If those are also equal, the team whose top five players scored more points ranks higher.

An officially ruled-out player can be replaced with an unsold player of the same or lower base price. The organizer approves each request, and the first valid request gets the player. The replacement must still satisfy applicable role and overseas rules. This feature applies to real tournaments, not Local Tournament leagues.

Yes. Online auctions automatically include short breaks and one longer break, with a countdown showing the remaining time. Local Tournament leagues do not use scheduled breaks.

Every rule is on the Auction Rules page, with separate rules for each league type and tournament:

Every auction opens with four practice players: Demo Batter, Demo WK, Demo AR and Demo Bowler. They let you try bidding and see how the auction room works before the real players come up.

No. Bids on demo players do not change your purse, your squad or the auction results. They are practice only and are never counted.

No. Demo players never join a squad, never earn points and never appear in the standings.

CAL Public Leagues FAQs8 questions

Public Leagues are open leagues that anyone can join for fun. They use international players from supported tournaments, with live bidding followed by tournament scoring.

Public Leagues currently run for the Indian T20 League and Women’s Indian T20 League. The T20 Championship and ODI Championship are planned for future availability, subject to the CAL schedule.

Each Public League has 10 teams, or 5 teams for the Women’s Indian T20 League. Once a league is full, you can join another available league.

Each team receives a budget of 2,000 and builds a squad of 11 players. Squads must include at least one Batter, Wicket-Keeper, All-Rounder and Bowler, with a maximum of 4 overseas players.

Players are grouped into 100, 80, 60 and 40 price sets and presented in randomized order, starting with the highest set. Teams bid against the live countdown, and the winning price is deducted from the winning team’s budget.

Teams that are still short can nominate players during the Final Round. If a squad remains incomplete when the auction ends, CAL automatically fills the remaining spots using the team’s remaining budget while accounting for outstanding role and overseas requirements.

Yes. Public Leagues continue scoring throughout the tournament, including Captain and Vice-Captain multipliers, standings and tie-breakers.

No. Public Leagues use the official player pool configured for the selected tournament. If you want to use your own players, create a Managed League.

CAL Private Leagues FAQs10 questions

Private Leagues are invite-only auctions for your own group. They use international players from a supported tournament and follow the same standard auction and scoring rules as Public Leagues.

The organizer shares an invite link or code, typically through WhatsApp. Teams sign in or register, request their team and wait for organizer approval. Only approved teams can bid.

The organizer can set the league for 2 to 20 teams, or 2 to 5 teams for the Women’s Indian T20 League.

Yes. The organizer can choose online or offline bidding when creating the league. In an offline auction, teams bid in person and the organizer records each winning team and price. There is no online timer.

No. Private Leagues use the standard CAL squad, budget and bidding rules to keep the format consistent. The organizer can choose the tournament, team limit and online or offline format. For customized rules, use a Managed League.

Yes. The organizer can hide the league from public view, making the invite link or code the only way to access it.

Yes. Private Leagues score through the tournament just like Public Leagues, with Captain and Vice-Captain, standings and tie-breakers. See the Points System for how points are scored.

The organizer creates the league, shares invitations, approves teams and runs the auction online or in person. Any genuine dispute or exceptional situation is resolved by the organizer, whose decision is final.

Yes. Every organizer can create one free Demo Auction to learn the system. It is instant, with no approval and no payment, and runs with 2 teams of 11 players using practice players.

You can have one Demo Auction at a time. Delete it from its console whenever you want a fresh one. Only you can see it: it never appears in the list of available leagues.

CAL Managed Leagues FAQs14 questions

Managed Leagues are customized auctions for your own group. You can use players from a major tournament or create a Local Tournament with your own player pool, then customize the budgets, squad rules and auction format.

Organizers can customize the team budget, individual budgets, squad size, role and player limits, combination rules, bid increments, player rotation sequence, and online or offline bidding. Major Tournament leagues support additional role, Indian and overseas rules.

Managed major tournament leagues support 2 to 20 teams, or 2 to 5 for the Women’s Indian T20 League. Local Tournament leagues support 2 to 30 teams.

Retention and Right to Match (RTM) are optional features for major tournament leagues. A Retention assigns a player to a team at a fixed price before the auction. With RTM, a tagged team can match the winning bid, with bidding paused for 15 seconds while the team decides.

Yes. The organizer can set one standard budget or assign individual budgets to specific teams, such as for fixed-price retentions or budget carried forward from a previous season.

Dynamic Bid Tiers allow the organizer to set up to five bid-increment levels, with the increment increasing as the current bid rises. This provides more control over bidding at different price levels.

Yes, in a Local Tournament league. The organizer creates the player list with ratings, roles, base prices and player details. Players can also register themselves through an invite link, subject to organizer approval. Major Tournament leagues use the real players from the selected tournament.

It depends on the format. Major Tournament Managed Leagues can enable post-auction scoring, standings and Captain/Vice-Captain selection. Local Tournament leagues are auction-only and do not use scoring.

Yes, in a Local Tournament league. Auto-Assign uses player ratings to create balanced teams without budgets or bidding. The organizer can clear the teams and run Auto-Assign again for a different combination.

In Local Tournament leagues, the organizer can add one Icon Player, one Manager and one Owner to each team at no cost. They occupy squad spots but do not require bidding.

Yes. Choose offline bidding for a live, on-site auction. The organizer records each sale in the room, and the auction can also be streamed live on YouTube.

The league organizer manages the auction through the CAL organizer console, including players, teams, budgets, rules, invitations and the auction itself.

Choosing Your League6 questions

Choose a Public League for an open league, a Private League for an invite-only auction with your group, or a Managed League when you want to customize the rules, budgets or player pool.

Public Leagues are open leagues with international players and fixed CAL rules. Private Leagues use the same standard rules but are invite-only and can be run online or in person. Managed Leagues give organizers control over budgets, squads, bid increments, player pools and other auction settings. Scoring is optional for major tournament Managed Leagues and is not used in Local Tournament leagues.

A Private League is the best fit for a group of friends. You can run an invite-only auction using real players and follow your squads throughout the tournament.

A Managed Local Tournament League is the best fit. Use your own players and ratings, run the auction online or in person, or create balanced teams instantly with Auto-Assign.

Yes. One CAL account can join both Public and Private Leagues, as well as multiple leagues where eligible.

The fundamentals remain the same, but your strategy can change based on the player pool, budget, squad requirements and league format. Review the Auction Rules for the specific league type you are playing.
